CELEBRATING 35 YEARS OF HIFONICS

This is the 1972 Pro Touring Chevy Camaro featured in the Hifonics booth in November and the leading industry trade show for all things automotive. The SEMA show. Held in Las Vegas every November.

THROW BACK

The car was selected for it’s throw back “F” body to help celebrate the 35th Anniversary of Hifonics. Even though these sexy hunk of Detroit is 10 years older, many customer told us that in the 80’s (when Hifonics was launched) the really cool kids were driving their brother and sister’s muscle cars, thus this Camaro was chosen.

The large two seater vehicle offers the large trunk for subwoofers and amplifiers while the large doors and kick panels are perfect for creating a great soundstage.

Check out the video from Power Automedia featuring Steve Magnate interviewing Chad Marra on the build of the Camaro and some other items featured for Hifonics at SEMA.

STRATEGY

The owner had planned a ground up resto for the power plant, the suspension, interior and paint. It seemed only natural for Chad Marra at Elite Car Audio in Mesa, AZ to sign up to handle the heavy lifting on the interior, since it would be a platform to show off Hifonics audio gear.

Chad Marra from Elite Car Audio said, “I was challenged by the team at Hifonics to build a throw-back install. Nothing like the stealth builds customers want today, but a build that reminds us of a time when car audio was loud, proud and in your face – trunk space be damned! The owner of the Camaro was excited to have a full Hifonics build and crank it at SEMA for the 35th Anniversary.”

POWER FROM THE GODS

The audio system features the incredible Brutus Elite 35 amplifiers.

On the subwoofers is the big BE35 2500.1D mono block (pictured here) and the four channel BE35 800.4 drives the MB Quart components called the Z-Line in the door panels and in the coax drivers in the rear deck. The bottom end is handled by the Brutus 12 inch (BRX12D4) dual 4 ohm voice coil subwoofers with customized illumination.

CUSTOM INSTALLATION

As you can imagine, there is a lot of meticulous time put into the audio build. Before the custom 2.5 cubiC foot enclosure could be installed it needed to be fitted and adjusted.

The custom door panels will be fitted with a unique metal grill and trim which carried the design theme of “modern tech” in a throwback build forward into the design.

The finished door is spectacular and garnered a lot of attention from the SEMA press.

ILLUMINATION

The custom illumination in the Camaro’s trunk creates a unique light show, perfect for grabbing the attention of car show judges. Watch the video from Elite Car Audio Facebook to see the slow illumination setting.
